The Hitch Hiker’s Handbook franchise also includes the upcoming The Hitch-Hiker’s Holodeck: A Journey to the Center of Everything, starring Dern.

It has already grossed over $5 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.

Hitchhiker will hit theaters on Aug. 24.

(Huffington Post) The film is based on an anthology series written by the late, great science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, which ran from 1963-1973.

Smith has played several characters in the franchise, most notably the eponymous narrator, who travels through time and space to guide a group of astronauts through the alien planet of Nibiru.

Smith also voiced a character in the upcoming Alien: Covenant, which is set in the same universe.
